Laura Mason - Biography

Making beautiful things all my life

Creating beautiful art for lovers of beauty

Laura's paintings are greatly influenced by a life-changing experience in 1963. After unknowingly spending the first 6 years of her life with very poor eyesight, she received her first pair of prescription eyeglasses.

On that day all the beauty of creation seemed defined as it was intended to be. Everything became clear, not an impression but an actual crisp object.

Since that day Laura has loved the way that light can shape and define objects, and how changes in lighting can alter how we feel when we view the same item. She's always amazed how colors can glow and how shadows can contain so many values and colors, and loves recreating the same feeling on a two dimensional surface, using richly colored oils and pastels.

Portraying everyday objects and people in this new light paintings are developed by revealing the colors, shadows and light that are hidden within objects and turning them into something truly unique.

In portraiture a focus is centered on a person's character and expression, to truly capture their personality, resulting in a final work that transcends generations.

In her 55 years of drawing and painting, she continues to find beauty in everyday things, in the people and landscapes around her.
